What goes into creating a LuminLeaf Author Spotlight Event? More than you might imagine. From initial author contact to post-event community engagement, each event represents weeks of careful planning and coordination.
It starts with author selection. We identify creators whose work demonstrates authentic voice, emotional depth, and genuine engagement with their community. When Ryan McNeill's "Beyond the Mural" came to our attention, we immediately recognized something special—a story rooted in personal experience and crafted with real intention.
Next comes collaboration. We work closely with the featured author to understand their vision for the event. What themes do they want to explore? What aspects of their creative process do they most want to share? Are there specific discussion directions they'd like to encourage? This isn't a scripted performance—it's a partnership.
Simultaneously, we prepare our community. We share the author's bio, book information, and event details across our platforms. We encourage readers to read the book beforehand (or during the event) and to prepare questions. We create thematic guides for discussion, though we emphasize that genuine curiosity matters more than preparation.
The event itself requires real-time facilitation. Our moderators guide discussions, ensure voices are heard, and pivot when conversations take unexpected turns—which they often do in the best ways. We're listening, not controlling.
Post-event, the work continues. We capture key quotes and moments, follow up with community members, and facilitate connections between readers and authors that formed during the event. Many of our author-reader friendships began this way.
